Building Core Strength Beyond Crunches

Your core supports lifting, running, posture, balance, and everyday movement. Train it as a complete system.

When most people think “core,” they think sit-ups and crunches. While those moves target your abdominal muscles, your core is much more than a six-pack. It is the powerhouse that supports every lift, run, and daily movement you make.

Your core includes your deep abdominal muscles, obliques, lower back, hips, and glutes. Strengthening these areas improves stability, balance, and posture while reducing injury risk in and out of the gym.

Plank Variations

Targets: Deep core stabilizers, shoulders, and glutes. Try forearm planks, side planks, or plank shoulder taps while keeping your hips level and glutes engaged.

Dead Bugs

Targets: Deep abs and coordination between the core and limbs. Lower one arm and the opposite leg slowly while keeping your lower back pressed into the floor.

Pallof Press

Targets: Anti-rotation strength. Using a cable or resistance band, press forward from your chest and resist twisting.

Glute Bridge March

Targets: Glutes, hamstrings, and lower-back stability. Hold a bridge position and alternate lifting each knee without dropping your hips.

Farmer’s Carry

Targets: Core stability under load. Hold heavy dumbbells at your sides and walk slowly with shoulders back and core engaged.
